Keeping Flowers Fresh

Keeping Flowers Fresh

Who doesn’t love fresh flowers? Fresh flowers spell class and quality and everybody loves them.

However, if you are one of those people who avoid going for fresh because you hate it when they wilt fast, then with our sure fire tips on keeping flowers fresh, you can now go out and buy flowers by the dozen.

In The Fridge First!
The first thing that you need to do when you get fresh flowers is to put them in the fridge for 5 to 6 hours. An arrangement made out of these flowers will stay fresh for three times as long as usual.

Trimming
Take care to remove all flowers and leaves below water level. Keep your flowers in cold water and trim the stems at the bottom every alternate day to keep your flowers fresh longer.

Nutrition
Adding some nutrition to the water, like a cube of sugar, an opened multivitamin capsule or a quarter glass of soda pop, will make your fresh flowers last longer.

Water Purity
Fresh flowers start wilting when the water they are standing in are plagued by bacteria, yeast and fungi. To keep flowers fresh by restricting the growth of these flower killers, some home made remedies are:

- Add a copper penny to the water. It will act as a fungicide and keep your flowers fresh

- A crushed tablet of aspirin will increase the acidity of the water content and help keep bacterial growth under control

- 2 tablespoons of vinegar, lemon juice or a single tbsp of vodka in a quart of water will keep flowers fresh by hampering bacterial and fungal growth

Temperature
You can greatly increase the lifespan of fresh flowers by cooling them, providing them with nutrition and saving them from microbes.

The simple tips given above will help you in keeping flowers fresh longer and your home looking beautiful all the time!
